Creativity is the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality
In AS we took influences from different films and a topic in the media; mental health. After spending hours researching about the illness schizophrenia, we discovered that with using such a strong topic we could become as creative as we liked to no extent. This is because the mind is such an open subject, and there is yet so much that remains undiscovered.
Out of the whole opening sequence, there was one shot that stood out the most. We filled a bath tub with water and leaves and using a close up shot, we were able to make it look like an exact replica of a lake in the woods that the rest of the sequence was filmed. Then using a tad of make up we made our character look as dead as possible, we then positioned her in the tub with the leaves surrounding her face.
We filmed the whole sequence in a wooded area, this would help present the genre of thriller. When it came to post production stage, we made the sequence very jumpy and confusing. This would make the audience just as disorientated as the character himself. We did this by flashing from shot to shot, and turning shots upside down. I feel that this worked very well as it adds to the abnormal sinister atmosphere. It is very similar to the way Christopher Nolan's film Memento was edited.
In A2 we created a music video with the whole video being in a 'selfie' format. We did this because our target audience for our artist is late teens and with the 'selfie' craze being very popular right now we took this to our advantage and knew this would immediately attract our audience.
From my research I found that a lot of popular music videos are regularly about a journey or travelling, and living young. So we decided to use this idea into our music video. Through out the video we showed a journey of a Go Pro camera being shared with numerous people. We did this by starting with Alex Echo and his journey to school and then being placed in his bag, the bag then opens to another character pulling the camera out at an airport. We then follow her journey around Barcelona for her to place the camera back in the bag, for another character to open it in a different location. We presented all of our characters positively as they all seem very active.
My skills have progressed since my AS production in the way that i became more creative with location, moving from a bland wooded area to multiple uplifting scenery's such as a swimming pool, Barcelona and a park. I also became more creative when it came to editing, as time was very important in a music video, we found it very hard to include the bag shot at the end of every character. However after a long time of playing around with premiere we eventually achieved what we were hoping for.
We went against the theory that when editing a film all of the shots should flow, and when editing a music video it doesn't matter if it doesn't flow. Whereas for our opening sequence, it is very jumpy and surreal and with our A2 music video the majority of it flows.
