For my A2 coursework production my group and i created a music video advertising a song from the artist we created; Alex Echo.
From research i found that a lot of popular music videos are based on the youth travelling. So we decided to take this idea forward, however a lot of these types of videos are used for the genre pop and dance. Our artist is very indie which widens our target audience as the video would appeal to people that enjoy travelling inspired videos and also people that are into indie music.
Another craze that is extremely popular with the youth is the 'selfie'. This is extremely popular with apps like snapchat a social messaging sight which allows you to send pictures for limited time, instagram is also extremely popular with selfies. There is also a song called 'selfie' by the The Chainsmokers. We decided to make the whole video in a selfie format with the camera being hand held in front of each characters face. This would immediately attract a lot of the younger generation and young adults as the majority of people have an interest in taking selfies. This widens our target audience tremendously
Most of our characters in our video are in their late teens. The media tend to give a negative representation of teenagers and making them out to be trouble. However we went against that representation and presented them as positive characters, very active and happy. Presenting them positively is vital as our target audience ranges from 12-25. However all of the male characters and involved in sporting activites such as swimming and riding a bike. Where as the female character is traveling and enjoying the sun. Levi-Strauss binary oppositions theory applies here as the males are presented as the typical strong active character and the female is presented as calm and enjoying a girls holiday.
